Go back to the beginning with The Baxters.
A terrible storm builds in the early morning sky over Bloomington, Indiana, as Elizabeth Baxter prepares to celebrate her daughter Kari’s wedding to Tim Jacobs. More than that, Elizabeth can’t shake a growing sense of dread. Is Kari about to marry the wrong man? Is the storm a sign? Whatever the case, something bad is about to happen. Elizabeth knows it.
Meanwhile, Kari Baxter feels a sense of panic. She wonders if she’s making a mistake. But then she calms herself down. Ryan Taylor hadn’t wanted her, after all. She remembers what led to this day and she convinces herself. Everything will be okay. She will marry Tim Jacobs later that evening.
Even still, at the wedding, both Elizabeth and John watch the ceremony, concerned. The storm is worsening outside, but more than that so are their doubts. Something in Kari’s eyes doesn’t look right.
During the reception, Ashley Baxter and Landon Blake dance. This isn’t wise, she tells herself. Since her deadly car accident three years earlier she hasn’t been the same. She no longer shares Landon’s faith or even the views of her own family. But one thing is still the same. The way she loves Landon.
After the wedding, back at the Baxter house, a shouting match breaks out between Ashley and her younger brother, Luke Baxter. Luke has no respect for Ashley because of her past choices. The fight between the siblings is painful and awkward. While the argument rages on, suddenly tragedy strikes. Baby Cole chokes on a juice pack cap that his uncle Luke inadvertently left on the child’s highchair tray. A paramedic, Landon steps in and save's Cole's life. When Ashley responds by retreating to the backyard, Landon finds her. They talk about the impossibilities between the two of them. Ashley is certain telling Landon her darkest secret will drive him away once and for all. Unable to deny their chemistry, they kiss anyway. While it seems doubtful at the moment, Landon knows one day soon he and Ashley will find their way back to each other.
At the same time, tornado sirens wail nearby. The entire group hunkers down in the basement. Forced to spend tme together, the fighting siblings clear the air and make things right. When the imminent danger passes the family emerges with hearts healed and a new hope.
Though things aren't turning out the way Elizabeth and John had planned, they are still good. And they trust God to guide the Baxter family through the next season of challenges.
